Lunar Youth Featured In The Guardian Music

Earlier this month The Guardian’s (& NME’s!) Leonie Cooper singled out Lunar Youth to feature in the newspaper’s First Sight column, which every week highlights the most promising up and coming talent in the worlds of music and film. Read the article below or view it online here.

Yearning to drive ... Lunar Youth

Who are they?
A superslick, pop-hearted FM rock trio who take the melodies of Tom Petty and the strut of the Cars, working those ingredients into something vaguely reminiscent of a more mellow version of Sam’s Town-era Killers. You’ll be glad to hear that they lace it all with the kind of yearning emotion that the rather more po-faced Brandon Flowers would find hard to muster.

Sounds shockingly American – is it?
Kind of. Lunar Youth are New York brothers Simon and Adam Berlin, and token Brit Peter Davies, but they are based in London. They’re currently nailing down their indie cred via studio sessions with Brandon Curtis of Secret Machines.

Surely this sort of soft-rock jangle is a bit over, no?
Actually, their love of Tom Petty seems especially appropriate in the run up to Glastonbury, with Petty and his Heartbreakers strongly tipped to be playing the festival. With tracks called things such as Peppermint Lounge, their way with the 80s drivetime references is impressively accurate.

Where can I hear them?
Their debut single, Mistfits, came out last week and their second, Nighttime Diamond, will be released in May. Hear both at myspace.com/lunaryouth
