Sam reflects on the Everybody’s Gothic Christmas23rd Jan, 2020
When I cast my mind back to the Everybody’s Christmas party, I’m reminded of the immortal and inescapably emo words of Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus in their nostalgic hit, ‘I Miss You’.
“Where you can always find me
We’ll have Halloween on Christmas
And in the night we’ll wish this never ends
We’ll wish this never ends”
Christmas is a happysad time of year isn’t it? The gratitude of a moment to pause, mixed with reflecting on another year past. The acceptance that time stops for no one.
In many ways, bowling, our pre-dinner activity of choice, is an apt metaphor for how approaching the end of the work year feels. You’re just doing everything you can to reach the pins - and even better - go out on a high.
Post-bowling it was back to Adam’s house for a beautiful candlelit dinner, catered by Adam’s neighbour George. It was so delicious that none of us left any room for the cheeseboard. Still gutted about that.
A highlight of the night was the exchange of our Secret Santa presents - which had to be one of the most impressive and thoughtful secret santa’s I have ever seen. It put actual Santa to shame. Better luck next year big fella.
I think this selection of film photos capture our, loosely gothic themed, festive affair very nicely. Wistful reflection, on tired -but happy- faces. Toasting another year of hitting the pins.
