#ToutsOut: Help us protect music, arts and sport fans from touts

5th May, 2016

There’s a lot that’s wrong with the way that touts are using the Secondary ticket platforms to scalp tickets that they’re harvesting from Primary ticket platforms on an industrial scale.  But the main thing is that fans are being ripped off, which isn’t good for fans obviously, and ultimately won’t be good for the business either.

Although technology can help us battle the touts, we need legislation to win the war.  Unfortunately, successive UK Governments have failed to act, and measures included in last year’s Consumer Rights Act have so far proved toothless.  However, because this legislation is currently subject of an independent review, we have a small window of opportunity to show MPs our strength of feeling on these practices - and for that reason we are supporting a petition demanding that the law is strengthened.

If 100,000 people sign it, then Government will have to consider online ticket touting as a subject for Parliamentary debate.

To help us reach this target, we are asking artists to get involved and encourage their fans to sign up and share on social media. I’ve sponsored the petition on behalf of the FanFair Alliance, and the artists we work with here will be posting about the petition.

If, like us, you feel sick about your audiences being ripped off, then we would massively appreciate your support.

The petition can be found here, and we are asking all those promoting it to use the hashtag #ToutsOut.
